Scores Defect From PDP To APC As Obaseki Pledges Party Supremacy


Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki Saturday declared that he is committed to giving power to the party and the members as his policies and programmes would be cross pollination of ideas between government and the party.

He stated this in Igarra, headquarters of Akoko-Edo local government area when he visited the area as part of appreciation visits to the 18 local government areas ahead of his one year in office where he rewarded wards that gave double the figure of what the opponent scored and the one that gave him the highest votes in his election.

At the rally, hundreds of supporters of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from wards 3 4, 5, and 10 defected from PDP to APC.

Accompanied by his deputy, Philip Shaibu and his wife Marian Shaibu, Chief of Staff, Taiwo Akerele, Speaker of the state house of assembly Kabiru Adjoto, Honourable Emma Agbaje, Senator Francis Alimikhena, House of Represenratives Member, Peter Appatason, political appointees and party leaders, Obaseki said with effect from now, there must be monthly state, local government, ward and unit meetings where his programs and policies would be communicated to the party members and through the same channel, government would get what the people want and desire.

“We are not going to wait for elections before we meet with you, we want you to know that politicians can say something and stand by it, we want to ensure that we have at least 80 per cent of every registered voters in every unit as a member of the APC and we will achieve this through regular meetings and that is most of our political appointees were chosen from you”.

As part of middle level manpower creation, Obaseki said he would rehabilitate the Igarra technical college to produce artisans.

Earlier, state chairman of the party, Anselm Ojezua said the party would soon begin electronic registration of members and would be issued electronic membership cards.
