Farmers Association Urges Obaseki to Sell Fertilizer Directly to Farmers

All Farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN, has appealed to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State to ensure that fertilizer from the state owned fertilizer plant in Auchi, is sold directly to farmers in the state and not through middlemen.

Alhaji Abdullahi Oshiobugie, Edo North coordinator of AFAN, who made the appeal in a chat with newsmen in Benin City, said the appeal became necessary so that farmers would not suffer inflation of prices by the middlemen.

Akoko-Edo, one of the oldest local government in Nigeria, is among the six local government areas in Afemailand (Edo North). It covers a land mass measuring about 1,371 km2 with a population of 262,100 as at 2006 census. The local government is made up of about 43 towns and Villages.

Auchi – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Thursday said it would deploy 485 personnel and 1,200 special marshals to various highways in Edo to ensure safety during the Yuletide.

Mr Samuel Odukoya, the Edo Sector Commander, said this at the inauguration of the `Ember’ months campaign tagged “Right to Life on the Highway is Not Negotiable’’ held in Auchi, Etsako-West Local Government Area of Edo.

“We have 485 officers and 1,200 special marshals that will be on patrol in strategic routes within the various commands and units of our zone in Edo.

Auchi Polytechnic staff on Monday said they had implicit confidence that the acting Rector, Dr Sanusi Jimah, would redeem his pledge to liquidate arrears of the inherited N1.8 billion owed to unions at the institution.

The three unions in the institution in March, suspended their month-old strike following an inaugural meeting with Jimah over the outstanding indebtedness of N1.8 billion owed to the unions by the previous administration of Dr Philipa Idogo.

The unions include: the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics ( ASUP ), the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics ( SSANIP ) and the Non Academic Staff union of Polytechnics ( NASUP ).

Edo State Governor,  Godwin Obaseki have said that his administration is willing to support any initiative that will curb human trafficking.

The Edo State Government has approved N500 million as counterpart funding for the state’s SEEFOR public works programme, which will enable it access N2bn from the World Bank for infrastructural projects in the state.
