Auchi – A fresh graduate of the Federal Polytechnic Auchi, Miss Uloko Lawrenta Apaume was accidentally shot death, yesterday, in her hostel while she was throwing a party to celebrate her graduation.

The lady was allegedly killed by a stray bullet fired by members of the vigilante group invited by her landlord to provide security for the party.

AFEMAIPEOPLE gathered that the landlord of the hostel invited vigilantes to the hostel to provide security for graduating HND students who were celebrating their graduation.

Motorists on Monday appealed to the Federal Government ( FG ) to urgently reconstruct the old and narrow Ose Bridge at Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State to prevent vehicles from plunging into the Ose River.

Several vehicles from the western part of the country going to Abuja had plunged into the river killing many of the occupants.

The bridge is situated between Ifon, a village in Ondo State and Uzebba, a town in Owan West Local Government in Edo State.

Some suspected herdsmen, yesterday, kidnapped a retired Superintendent of Police and former Divisional Police Officer of Igarra Police Station, Chief James Omafuaire, his wife and one other person.

They were reportedly abducted at the retired 80-year-old policeman’s quarry in Ikpeshi, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.

Chief Omafuaire is elder brother of Vanguard Newspaper Senior Photojournalist, Akpokona Omafuaire. The other abducted person was said to be a customer, who had arrived at the site to buy stones.

NYSC Distributes 800 Mosquito Nets to Resident in Akoko-Edo

No fewer than 800 insecticide-treated mosquito nets is set to be distributed in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo by the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in order to contain malaria in the area.

The Edo Coordinator, NYSC, Mallam Abdullahi Yusuf stated this at the 4th quarter Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers and U-Report held in Uneme, Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo on Tuesday.

Yusuf said that the scheme would also offer free medical treatment with free drugs to be given to ensure healthy leaving of the people of the community.

Benin-Auchi Road: Edo Assembly Directs Controller To Present Contract Documents

BENIN CITY- Edo House of Assembly has directed the Federal Controller of Works in Edo, Mr Oke Owie, to present to it on Oct. 16 copies of contract details on the Benin-Auchi road.

The House gave the directive to the Controller when he appeared before it in Benin on Monday to explain why contractors handling the rehabilitation of the Benin-Auchi road have abandoned it.

The authorities of Auchi Polytechnic have proscribed the Student’s Union Government over threat to the scheduled school’s second semester examination on Monday. Mustapher Oshiobugie, the Public Relations Officer of Auchi-poly, made the disclosure in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) on Monday in Benin.

Fr. Lawrence Adorolo‎ of the Catholic Parish Priest of St. Benedict Church, Auchi Diocese who was abducted along Auchi-Okene highway about 6pm last Wednesday while returning from Igarra in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area has regained his freedom.
