A Bill for a law to establish the Edo State Cattle Rearing and Grazing Agency on Tuesday passed second reading on the floor of the Edo House of Assembly.

Bright Osayande (APC-Ovia North East 11), who led the debate for the passage of the bill, said the incessant killing of defenseless farmers and the needless destruction of crops by herdsmen was a call for concern.

New political appointees, Special Assistants (SAs) and Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) in Edo, may be relieved of their appointments if found guilty of acts of corruption, abandonment of duty posts, failure to submit reports as at when required, sabotage, and general incompetence, it emerged on Monday.

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, reading out the riot act, admonished the aides to regard their appointments as opportunities to impact positively in their communities, while also acquainting them on their roles in the transformation drive of his administration.

Governor Obaseki of Edo on Tuesday requested the state house of assembly to screen and confirm the list of 18-man commissioner nominees for commissioners in the state.

Speaker of the House, Justin Okonoboh announced the letter from the governor containing the names which was read by the clerk of the house, James Omoatama.

The Federal Polytechnic Auchi, Edo on Monday warned that it would henceforth sanction lecturers in the habit of awarding marks to students for money or sex.

Dr Sanusi Jimah, the Acting Rector of the institution made the commitment when he received executive members of the polytechnic’s Alumni Association.

Edo Fertilizer plant to begin production in June

Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki has assured that the Edo fertilizer blending plant in Auchi will become functional before the end of June 2017.

The governor stated this on Thursday during the inspection of facilities and work progress in the Fertilizer Blending plant in Auchi Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.

The governor gave this assurance after receiving reports from Mr Ayodele Ejaoye, the General Manager of the Technical Company managing the fertilizer plant, who also said that the blending plant could produce about 55.000 metric tons of fertilizer per year.

Elele Women protest activities of herdsmen/killing of woman

Hundreds of women in Elele-Uzairue, Etsako West Local Government Area, Edo, on Saturday staged a peaceful protest on Auchi-Okene-Highway, following the killing of a middle-aged woman by suspected herdsmen.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the protesters want all herdsmen to vacate their territory without further delay.

Women in their hundreds chanting songs, appealed to the government to find lasting solution to the activities of the herdsmen in the area.

24 Boko Haram members arrested in Auchi — Otaru

The Otaru of Auchi Kingdom, Alhaji H.A Momoh, on Monday announced the arrest of 24 suspected Boko Haram members in the community by the Nigerian Army.

The monarch disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in his palace at Auchi, headquarters of the Estako-West local government area of Edo state.

He said the commandant of the Nigeria Army School of Engineering, Auchi, informed him of the arrest of the suspected insurgents in his palace.
