Edo, EFPAN To Partner On Project Cultural Heritage

Edo government to revitalise the Auchi fertiliser plant. Commissioners

The Edo Government, on Wednesday, said it would partner with the Edo Film Practitioners Association of Nigeria (EFPAN) to project the state’s rich cultural heritage and history through film production.

Gov. Godwin Obaseki, made this pledge when he received members of the association, who came on a courtesy visit to the Government House in Benin.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Mr Philip Shaibu, said the partnership with the group was apt as the state was in dire need of telling its own story with correct facts.

Adjoto Emerges Edo Assembly Speaker as 19 Members Impeached Okonoboh

The Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Justin Okonoboh has been impeached by 19 out of the 24 lawmakers in the House who signed his impeachment notice.

In his place, the member representing Akoko-Edo I Constituency, Hon. Kabiru Adjoto was immediately sworn-in as substantive Speaker to bring to an abrupt end, the one year reign of the impeached speaker.

The impeachment of Okonoboh and his Deputy, Hon. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Ativie yesterday was sequel to a motion moved by the member representing Akoko Edo II Constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Agbaje and seconded by the member representing Orhionmwon-South Constituency, Hon. Roland Asoro, passing a vote of no confidence on the leadership of the former Speaker and his Deputy.

Osinbajo to commission 55,000 metric tonnes Auchi fertilizer blending plant


Edo State Government says the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo would be commissioning the 55,000 metric tonnes fertilizer blending plant located at Auchi, the administrative headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.

Godwin Obaseki, the state governor, gave the hint during an inspection of the 450 hectares maize farm at Sobe community in Owan West Local Government Area.

Obaseki had on June 1, 2017 during inspection of the blending plant, disclosed that the company would by June 15, 2017 be commissioned to begin commercial production.

Police, Tech Partners Set to Launch Crime Reporting App

In furtherance of efforts to curb insecurity across the country the Nigeria Police under the leadership of the IGP Ibrahim Idris has partnered with leading technology firms to develop and deploy an innovative mobile app, Hawk Eye.

Hawk Eye is a mobile app that will allow users to report crimes anonymously to the police by video, voice or text. It was developed by Lagos based tech firm Web Assets Nigeria Limited, in partnership with US-based tech firms BBGN&K and tech giant Microsoft along with the active collaboration of the Nigeria Police. The solution provides key technologies such as facial recognition and KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators).

Joy as Owan gets first indigenous Anglican bishop

There was jubilation in Sabongida-Ora Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, in Owan West Local Government Area of Delta State.

Reverend Augustine Ehijimetor Ohilebo was enthroned as its first indigenous bishop in accordance with the tradition of the Anglican Communion.

Some young members, who were witnessing the enthronement of an Anglican bishop for the first time, were thrilled at the observance of the church’s traditional rules.

The process began with the bishop knocking three times on the west door of the St. John Sabongida-Ora Cathedral with his pastoral staff seeking to come inside to give thanks to the Lord.

190,000 Insecticide-Mosquito Treated Nets Distributed In Akoko-Edo


Igarra – Dr Sunday Yerumoh, Director, Primary Health Care, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Edo, said on Monday that 190,000 insecticide-mosquito treated nets had been distributed to fight malaria in the area.

Yerumoh disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Igarra, headquarters of the local government area.

He said that the treated mosquito nets were provided free to enhance the treatment of the disease and encourage quality health care delivery at the grassroots.

Calm Returns to Igarra after Youths Burn Down Hotel Over Woman’s Death


Calm has returned to Igarra, Akoko-Edo local council of Edo State, after days of tension over the killing of a middleaged woman  by an allegedly drunk driver, identified as Onesi Obende-Okuru. Family members of the deceased and the alleged killer were sighted in several meetings trying to mend fences.

Angry youths reportedly razed down a hotel and a building belonging to the suspect last Friday over the killing.

The deceased had joined other women on a peaceful march round the town over what they termed strange happenings in the community and to also pray for protection for those that would participate in an annual festival called Aba.
