The sleepy community of Somorika in Akoko-Edo local government area came alive, last week, as it hosted Edo State Chief of Staff, Taiwo Akerele and inducted him into an age group. He was also honoured with the name, Omokhafe, which translates into ‘child is home.’

The deputy Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Rt Hon. Comrade Phillip Shaibu has promised to partner with the Nigeria Society of Engineers, (NSE).

FRSC to deploy 485 personnel, 1,200 special marshals in Edo

Auchi – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Thursday said it would deploy 485 personnel and 1,200 special marshals to various highways in Edo to ensure safety during the Yuletide.

Mr Samuel Odukoya, the Edo Sector Commander, said this at the inauguration of the `Ember’ months campaign tagged “Right to Life on the Highway is Not Negotiable’’ held in Auchi, Etsako-West Local Government Area of Edo.

“We have 485 officers and 1,200 special marshals that will be on patrol in strategic routes within the various commands and units of our zone in Edo.

Police destroy illegal refineries with more than 30 pits in Egono, Agbede

The Police in Edo on Friday destroyed illegal refineries with more than 30 pits in Egonu community in Agbede, near Auchi.

Led by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Babatunde Kokumo, the police team first inspected the various refining camps before destroying them.

Kokumo, who spoke shortly after the destruction exercise, said that the illegal refineries were discovered by officers of the command who were combing the bush for suspected kidnappers and other criminals.

Motorists Urges FG to Reconstruct Ose Bridge in Owan West

Motorists on Monday appealed to the Federal Government ( FG ) to urgently reconstruct the old and narrow Ose Bridge at Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State to prevent vehicles from plunging into the Ose River.

Several vehicles from the western part of the country going to Abuja had plunged into the river killing many of the occupants.

The bridge is situated between Ifon, a village in Ondo State and Uzebba, a town in Owan West Local Government in Edo State.

The authorities of Auchi Polytechnic have proscribed the Student’s Union Government over threat to the scheduled school’s second semester examination on Monday. Mustapher Oshiobugie, the Public Relations Officer of Auchi-poly, made the disclosure in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) on Monday in Benin.

He said the proscription of the SUG arose from the threat by the out-gone executive members of the union to disrupt the examination in protest over management’s postponement of union elections till after the sessional examinations.
