The sleepy community of Somorika in Akoko-Edo local government area came alive, last week, as it hosted Edo State Chief of Staff, Taiwo Akerele and inducted him into an age group. He was also honoured with the name, Omokhafe, which translates into ‘child is home.’

Akoko-Edo, one of the oldest local government in Nigeria, is among the six local government areas in Afemailand (Edo North). It covers a land mass measuring about 1,371 km2 with a population of 262,100 as at 2006 census. The local government is made up of about 43 towns and Villages.

An elementary study of Akoko-Edo political structure will shows that it is made up of ten (10) political wards, two State House of Assembly constituencies and a Federal Constituency with one seat in the House of Representatives at the National Assembly.
