The Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Kabiru Adjoto, has explained why he spends his security vote to take care of the armed security men attached to his office.

Adjoto who said this on Thursday in Benin during an interactive session with journalists, said being the number three citizen of the state, exposes him to risks of being kidnapped or attacked by armed robbers.

He said for that reason, he uses his security vote to pay his security men, to avoid being taken away like a chicken​ by hoodlums.

Edo State House of Assembly has lifted the suspension of its former Speaker, Justin Okonoboh, and the Majority Leader, Foly Ogedengbe.

The lifting of the suspension on the former principal officers of the House, followed recommendations of an ad hoc committee which had the new Deputy Speaker, Mr. Victor Edoror, as Chairman.

The committee however, said that the suspension of the embattled former Deputy Speaker, Mrs. Elizabeth Ativie, and the member representing Esan North-East II, Mr. Magnus Ezehi-Igbas​, who were also suspended by the House would remain​, until they showed sign of cooperation with the committee.

Adjoto Emerges Edo Assembly Speaker as 19 Members Impeached Okonoboh

The Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Justin Okonoboh has been impeached by 19 out of the 24 lawmakers in the House who signed his impeachment notice.

In his place, the member representing Akoko-Edo I Constituency, Hon. Kabiru Adjoto was immediately sworn-in as substantive Speaker to bring to an abrupt end, the one year reign of the impeached speaker.

The impeachment of Okonoboh and his Deputy, Hon. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Ativie yesterday was sequel to a motion moved by the member representing Akoko Edo II Constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Agbaje and seconded by the member representing Orhionmwon-South Constituency, Hon. Roland Asoro, passing a vote of no confidence on the leadership of the former Speaker and his Deputy.

Supreme Court Affirms Godwin Obaseki As Edo Governor

ABUJA—The Supreme Court, led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, has dismissed the appeal by the governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. It upheld the election of Governor Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The apex court consequently affirmed the concurrent verdicts of the Court of Appeal in Benin City and the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which had earlier dismissed Ize-Iyamu’s case and upheld Obaseki’s victory.
