Minister Advocate Entrepreneurial Training as Auchi Poly Graduate 18,010

As part of measures to reduce unemployment, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, has advocated entrepreneurial training for students in tertiary institutions.
He made the call at Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi in Etsako West Local Council Area of Edo State, during its 24th convocation.The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu and the former Minister of Information, Tony Momoh, also supported the call.

According to them, the introduction of entrepreneurial and technical courses in these institutions of learning would produce job creators rather than job seekers.Adamu said schoolsí curricula must be reviewed to include more of technical and entrepreneurial courses, because the country is blessed with

The Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Mr. Kabiru Adjoto, has explained why he spends his security vote to take care of the armed security men attached to his office.

Adjoto who said this on Thursday in Benin during an interactive session with journalists, said being the number three citizen of the state, exposes him to risks of being kidnapped or attacked by armed robbers.

He said for that reason, he uses his security vote to pay his security men, to avoid being taken away like a chicken​ by hoodlums.

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has commissioned two blocks of classrooms as well as bore hole projects executed by a Non-Governmental Organisation, Anamero Idofe Anamero Foundation, at Ogute Community in Okpella, Estako East Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking during the event on Thursday, Obaseki expressed his appreciation to the NGO for the gesture and called on other well spirited individuals and groups to partner with the state government in the development of rural communities.

Edo Assembly Lifts Suspension Of Impeached Speaker, Majority Leader

Edo State House of Assembly has lifted the suspension of its former Speaker, Justin Okonoboh, and the Majority Leader, Foly Ogedengbe.

The lifting of the suspension on the former principal officers of the House, followed recommendations of an ad hoc committee which had the new Deputy Speaker, Mr. Victor Edoror, as Chairman.

The committee however, said that the suspension of the embattled former Deputy Speaker, Mrs. Elizabeth Ativie, and the member representing Esan North-East II, Mr. Magnus Ezehi-Igbas​, who were also suspended by the House would remain​, until they showed sign of cooperation with the committee.

Edo Pledges Security as Tourists Visit Igarra for Aba Festival

Edo State government at the weekend promised adequate security for expected tourists as Igarra, Akoko-Edo local council holds its 288-year-old Aba festival, which would draw tourists from across the globe to the community. The Aba festival is celebrated once in six years and it re-establishes the well-knitted age-grade system in the community that sees members of the opoze age-group perform legislative and some executive functions before graduating into the elders council of the community.

As the people of Akoko- Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, gears up to celebrates the 38th edition of its 288 years old popular Aba festival, the organizers have been urged to explore the tourism potential of the age-long event for economic benefit to the locality and the State.

Mr Kenneth Obende, a native of Igarra who is equally angling to contest the Chairmanship seat of the local government said the festival also offer a unique  opportunity to foster peace among the people.
He reiterated that the day is a special one as all sons and daughters of Igarra community will all be at home to mark the festival.

Edo, EFPAN To Partner On Project Cultural Heritage

The Edo Government, on Wednesday, said it would partner with the Edo Film Practitioners Association of Nigeria (EFPAN) to project the state’s rich cultural heritage and history through film production.

Gov. Godwin Obaseki, made this pledge when he received members of the association, who came on a courtesy visit to the Government House in Benin.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Mr Philip Shaibu, said the partnership with the group was apt as the state was in dire need of telling its own story with correct facts.

Adjoto Emerges Edo Assembly Speaker as 19 Members Impeached Okonoboh

The Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Justin Okonoboh has been impeached by 19 out of the 24 lawmakers in the House who signed his impeachment notice.

In his place, the member representing Akoko-Edo I Constituency, Hon. Kabiru Adjoto was immediately sworn-in as substantive Speaker to bring to an abrupt end, the one year reign of the impeached speaker.

The impeachment of Okonoboh and his Deputy, Hon. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Ativie yesterday was sequel to a motion moved by the member representing Akoko Edo II Constituency, Hon. Emmanuel Agbaje and seconded by the member representing Orhionmwon-South Constituency, Hon. Roland Asoro, passing a vote of no confidence on the leadership of the former Speaker and his Deputy.

Osinbajo to commission 55,000 metric tonnes Auchi fertilizer blending plant


Edo State Government says the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo would be commissioning the 55,000 metric tonnes fertilizer blending plant located at Auchi, the administrative headquarters of Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.

Godwin Obaseki, the state governor, gave the hint during an inspection of the 450 hectares maize farm at Sobe community in Owan West Local Government Area.

Obaseki had on June 1, 2017 during inspection of the blending plant, disclosed that the company would by June 15, 2017 be commissioned to begin commercial production.

In furtherance of efforts to curb insecurity across the country the Nigeria Police under the leadership of the IGP Ibrahim Idris has partnered with leading technology firms to develop and deploy an innovative mobile app, Hawk Eye.

Hawk Eye is a mobile app that will allow users to report crimes anonymously to the police by video, voice or text. It was developed by Lagos based tech firm Web Assets Nigeria Limited, in partnership with US-based tech firms BBGN&K and tech giant Microsoft along with the active collaboration of the Nigeria Police. The solution provides key technologies such as facial recognition and KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators).
