Otu of Igarra Roles out the Drums

THE rocky town of Igarra, Edo State, wore a festive mood when High Chief Joseph Mayaki Akpeji (JP) entertained guests from far and near to mark his installation as the Otu of Igarra and head of Anona Clan. He also celebrated his 81st birthday with various traditional troupes performing.

The outing reminds one of late Nigerian and world acclaimed writer and poet, Chinua Achebe who said… “Until the lions have their own historians, history will always glorify the hunter”.

Okpekpe Hosted 1st IAAF-Certified Road Race in Nigeria

The hill-top village of Okpekpe in Etsako East local government area of Edo State came alive last Saturday as it played host to the first ever International Amateur Athletics Federation IAAF-certified road race in Nigeria.

The road race attracted seven hundred top athletes from Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia and Nigeria.  Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State also participated in the race alongside the Minister of Sports, Mr Bolaji Abdullahi and other VIPs including top Nollywood actors and actresses led by Zac Orji and Rachael Oniga.

Free Medical Screening in Auchi to Mark World Kidney Day

As part of activities to commemorate the world kidney day, Rural Outreach Foundation (a non governmental organization), yesterday, conducted a free medical screening exercise for people at the Otaru Palace in Auchi.

Some of the free test carried out by the organisation include urinalysis, blood pressure check, blood sugar, body mass index to check for obesity and blood analysis to check for kidney disease.

Auchi, the commercial hub of Afemailand practically came to a standstill, Tuesday, as the Palace of the Otaru of Auchi played host to the epic event of the 16th Auchi day Celebration.

The celebration, with the theme “Justice as the Cornerstone for Prosperity & Peaceful Co-Existence”, was attended by several high-profile Nigerians, including traditional leaders across Afemai and beyond, as well distinguished sons and daughters of Auchi.

In a show of solidarity, all traders across Auchi closed their businesses as they trooped in their numbers to the palace of the Otaru of Auchi to catch a glimpse of the event.

In a move to integrate Afemai into the mainstream of Nigeria Entertainment industry, Edobot Bright and Frank Dallas Communications are organising the Miss Afemai Beauty Pageant 2012 which is billed to take place on the 15th of December 2012 at the Auchi Polytechnic main Auditorium, Auchi, Edo State.
